Campaign to Revitalise the Gosforth Central Park Play Area
A community campaign is raising funds for a brighter, more inclusive play area in Gosforth Central Park — with new equipment, sensory features, and a focus group residents are invited to join.
The much-loved play area in Gosforth Central Park is in line for a refresh — and the community is being invited to help shape it. A campaign led by the local Gosforth Play Park group, working with Urban Green Newcastle and Gosforth Shopping Centre, is raising money for new, more inclusive play equipment.
What's planned
The aim is a brighter, more accessible play park with new safety flooring and new equipment, including accessible play items and sensory features, so there is something for every child to enjoy regardless of age or ability.
Money already raised
Gosforth Shopping Centre and the Gosforth Play Park group have already raised more than £5,000 towards repairs and upgrades to the existing area, and fundraising continues for the larger refurbishment. Donations are being collected through the group's JustGiving campaign.
How to get involved
Urban Green Newcastle, the charity that looks after Gosforth Central Park, is looking for park users — parents, grandparents and childcare providers — to join a focus group so that the community helps decide what the new park should include. Details are on the Urban Green Newcastle website.
Best for: A community-led effort to give one of Gosforth's best-loved green spaces a play area to match.
