Mark Toney
Newcastle institution making award-winning ice cream since 1892. Family-run Italian-heritage parlour with two city centre locations on Grainger Street and Percy Street. Famous for their cones, sundaes, and traditional cafe menu.
About Mark Toney
Mark Toney has been making ice cream in Newcastle upon Tyne since 1892, when Giovanni Marcantonio travelled from Picinisco, a village in the Italian mountains, to the city with his young son Antonio. The family's award-winning dairy ice creams are still hand-made in Newcastle to their original Italian recipe, and the first parlour opened in the Grainger Arcade. The Grainger Street cafe has been trading since 1962 and is described as the oldest surviving coffee shop in Newcastle; following refurbishment it displays old ice cream memorabilia, awards and historic photographs. The parlour serves cones, sundaes and a traditional cafe menu.
