About This Event

Explore the Ouse Burn Way after dark on this guided bat walk led by NHSN naturalists. The wooded valley and waterway running through Jesmond Dene and into the Ouseburn Valley is prime bat habitat — at least five species have been recorded here including Common Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Noctule, and the water-skimming Daubenton's bat. Using specialist ultrasonic bat detectors, you'll learn to identify different species by their echolocation calls. The walk covers about a mile along mostly flat paths beside the burn. Bring a torch and warm clothing — even in July it can feel cool after dark in the shaded valley. Children welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
