About This Event
Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, welcoming everyone to discover hidden histories and local stories with a packed programme of completely free things to do. Running 11-20 September 2026, the festival offers free access to historical buildings, landmarks, and venues that are either not usually open to the public or would normally charge an entrance fee. Across Newcastle and the wider North East, expect behind-the-scenes tours of historic buildings, churches, civic buildings, and private houses. The programme also includes guided walks, talks, exhibitions, and hands-on activities celebrating local architecture and heritage. It is a brilliant opportunity to explore places you walk past every day but have never been inside.
