Best Pizza in Gosforth

From New York-style slices and Sardinian specialities to family-run trattorias serving pizza since 1990, here's where to find the best pizza in Gosforth.

Gosforth.org·

Gosforth has an unexpectedly deep pizza scene. Five independent restaurants serve pizza within walking distance of the High Street — each with a distinct style, from New York foldable slices to traditional Sardinian bases, wood-fired margheritas, and family-friendly Italian-American. Whether you're eating in, collecting, or ordering delivery, there's a pizza for every mood.

Pizza Dough Co

Pizza Dough Co at the Three Mile on Great North Road is the newest and boldest option — New York-style pizza with 12-inch artisan bases fired at 400 degrees. The dough is double-fermented for 20 hours before toppings are added fresh, then cooked in a wood-fired oven. The result is a charred crust with proper chew and bold flavours.

The menu goes beyond the classics — think Korean spiced beef, 'nduja and burrata, and even sweet pizzas (Nutella with fresh raspberry, or fudge toffee with marshmallows). The Feed the Family deal — two regular pizzas, two kids' pizzas, and four soft drinks for £25 (Monday–Thursday from 4pm) — is outstanding value. Kids eat for £1 during school holidays. There's also a soft play area (The Playhouse) and a solid cocktail menu.

Best for: New York-style, family deals, soft play, craft cocktails.

Corsaro

Corsaro at 197-199 High Street brings something genuinely different — Sardinian and Sicilian pizza rooted in traditional Southern Italian cooking. The dough and recipes draw on centuries of island tradition, and the flavours have a depth that sets Corsaro apart from a standard Italian. Look for the Sardinian guttiau bread alongside the pizza menu.

The deli counter at the front sells imported Italian goods, so you can pick up ingredients on the way out. The interior has a warm Mediterranean feel. A slightly more grown-up option than some of the family-oriented alternatives.

Best for: Sardinian specialities, something different, deli shopping on the side.

Basilico Ristorante

Basilico at 47 High Street has been serving pizza and pasta in Gosforth since 1990 — over 35 years. This is a family-run trattoria with a rustic interior and a menu that doesn't chase trends. The pizzas are classic Italian — well-made, reliably good, and complemented by pasta, risotto, and Italian mains.

It's the kind of neighbourhood restaurant where the staff know your name and your usual order. If you want dependable Italian pizza without fuss, Basilico has been delivering it quietly for decades.

Best for: Classic Italian pizza, a family-run trattoria, reliability over novelty.

San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo at 123 High Street offers pizza, pasta, and Mediterranean dishes in a family-friendly setting. The menu is broad and the atmosphere is relaxed — a good mid-range option for a weeknight family dinner where everyone can find something they like. Pizzas are well-priced and portions are generous. Collection available.

Best for: Family-friendly, good value, a relaxed weeknight dinner.

Francesca's

Francesca's at 134 High Street has been a Gosforth institution since 1998. While it's primarily known as a full Italian restaurant (and rightly so — see our restaurants guide), the wood-fired pizzas are worth highlighting in their own right. Made fresh in the kitchen alongside handmade pasta and seafood, they benefit from the same attention to ingredients that's kept Francesca's fully booked for 25 years. Booking recommended.

Best for: Pizza as part of a full Italian meal, special occasions, consistently excellent.

Oli & Joe's

Oli & Joe's at 235 High Street opened in 2016 and offers a 50/50 split of pizza and pasta. The menu covers Italian-American staples with gluten-free options available (including gluten-free pizza base — notify in advance). Large pizzas at fair prices. Available on Deliveroo for home delivery.

Best for: Delivery via Deliveroo, gluten-free pizza, Italian-American style.
