Gosforth Academy celebrates strong A-level results

A-level results day brought a 99 percent pass rate, seven students with straight A* grades, and destinations ranging from medicine and Oxbridge to local engineering apprenticeships at Gosforth Academy.

Results day is always a nervous morning, and for hundreds of families across Gosforth it landed on 14 August. At Gosforth Academy, the news was worth celebrating: the sixth form posted a 99 percent overall pass rate, with more than 80 percent of A-level entries graded A* to C.

A standout year at the top

Seven students achieved the near-impossible, gaining A* grades across every one of their subjects. A further 73 students finished with an average grade of A across all their studies — a striking depth of high achievement rather than a handful of individual stars. Across the year group the average A-level grade was a B, and the average vocational grade a Merit or above.

Where this year's leavers are heading

What matters most on results day is what comes next, and this cohort is heading in some very different directions. As shared by the academy, destinations include places on medicine and dentistry courses, offers from Oxbridge universities, engineering apprenticeships, and — in one case — a rugby contract with Newcastle Red Bulls. It is a reminder that a strong sixth form is not only about university league tables, but about opening the right door for each student, including the growing number choosing high-quality apprenticeships close to home.

Why it matters locally

Gosforth Academy is the main secondary school for much of the area, so its results are felt well beyond the school gates. A confident set of grades reassures parents weighing up local options for the years ahead, and it keeps young talent — future doctors, engineers and apprentices — rooted in and around Gosforth.

Principal Preit Chahal struck a warm note, saying results day is "one of my favourite days of the year." For the class of 2026, the hard work has paid off, and the whole community can share in the achievement.
