Gosforth Park First School
Outstanding across all five areas in its 2025 Ofsted inspection — Gosforth Park First School in Broadway East is one of the highest-rated schools in Newcastle.
Gosforth Park First School on Granville Road achieved the remarkable distinction of being rated Outstanding across all five Ofsted categories in its May 2025 inspection. For a school that was rated Good for nearly two decades, this represents a significant step up — and confirmation that headteacher Mrs Leanne Lamb's leadership has transformed the school.
The Basics
Gosforth Park First School is on Granville Road in Broadway East, NE3 5JQ. The school serves children from nursery (age 3) through to Year 4 (age 9), with around 274 pupils on roll. The Published Admission Number was expanded from 45 to 60 per year group in September 2023, reflecting growing demand. The nursery accommodates 26 full-time equivalent places.
The school is a founding member of the Gosforth Schools Trust and feeds into Gosforth East Middle School, which shares the same Broadway East campus.
Ofsted: Outstanding
The May 2025 Ofsted inspection rated the school Outstanding in all five areas: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management, and Early Years Provision.
Inspectors described pupils as having "a real sense of family" and noted they are "exceptional ambassadors" for the school's inclusive philosophy. The report highlighted that "pupils quickly settle into Nursery and get off to a flying start." The school had been rated Good at every previous inspection since at least 2004, making this upgrade to Outstanding all the more significant.
Curriculum
The school's curriculum is built on four pillars: Confidence, Challenge, Creativity, and Community. Key approaches include:
Little Wandle for phonics, White Rose Maths for mathematics, and Charanga for music. The school holds V21 Oracy School accreditation, meaning speaking and listening skills are embedded across all subjects — not just English lessons.
The school follows the Gosforth Gateways framework, a cross-trust curriculum defining what children should know by the end of Year 4, jointly developed by the nine first schools and two middle schools to ensure smooth transition.
RE is enriched with visits to a local church, synagogue, and Hindu temple.
No Outsiders
One of the school's standout programmes is [No Outsiders](https://www.gosforthpark.newcastle.sch.uk/no-outsiders) — a structured programme using age-appropriate picture books to teach about protected characteristics. The core message is "No one is the same but everyone is equal." Ofsted inspectors in 2025 specifically praised this programme, describing pupils as "exceptional ambassadors" for the philosophy.
OPAL Outdoor Play
The school launched its [OPAL](https://www.gosforthpark.newcastle.sch.uk/opal-play) (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme in Autumn 2022, funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority. Eight dedicated play zones were created: The Garden, Mud Kitchen, Tyres, Small World, Outdoor Classroom, Dressing-Up and Performance Stage, Den Building, and PE and Sports Equipment.
Clubs and Sport
The school won the School Games Gold Award for 2024/25. Lunchtime clubs include karaoke, dance, basketball, dodgeball, art, science, coding, choir, and library club. External after-school clubs include Star Strike Soccer, Rugby Minis, handball, French, and Mr H's Outdoor Adventures.

The school expanded its intake to 60 per year group from September 2023. Applications are managed through Newcastle City Council using the standard criteria: looked-after children, SEN, siblings, then distance. The school is oversubscribed — apply early.
