North Gosforth Academy celebrates best-ever GCSE results
North Gosforth Academy has posted its strongest GCSE results yet, with English and Maths passes climbing above national averages, ahead of its open evening on Wednesday 23 September.
North Gosforth Academy has good reason to celebrate. The Seaton Burn secondary school has recorded its best-ever set of GCSE results, with the headline measures rising sharply and both now sitting above national averages.
The results in numbers
The proportion of pupils achieving a Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, the standard pass, climbed from 61 percent to 67 percent. The tougher Grade 5 or above measure in both subjects rose even more steeply, from 40 percent to 51 percent. As reported by the academy, both figures place North Gosforth Academy above the national average, a notable step up year on year.
Best for: Grade 5 or above in English and Maths jumped from 40 percent to 51 percent, one of the school's biggest single-year improvements.
Executive Headteacher Pete Fox put the results down to a collective effort, pointing to "the support, encouragement and belief shown by our dedicated staff, parents, carers and wider school community."
Open evening on 23 September
The timing is helpful for families weighing up secondary options. The academy holds its open evening on Wednesday 23 September from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, with the Head of School giving a presentation at 5.30pm and again at 6.30pm. It is a chance to look round the facilities, meet staff and talk to current pupils. Families applying for a Year 7 place should note the national deadline of 31 October.
Why it matters locally
North Gosforth Academy serves families across the northern edge of Gosforth and the villages beyond, so a strong, improving set of results reassures parents making one of the bigger decisions of their child's education. A best-ever year, published just as the open evening season begins, gives prospective families plenty to consider.
