Spotlight: Pure Knead
The artisan sourdough bakery that started at Tynemouth Market in 2015 now has a permanent home in Gosforth Central — and sold out within hours of opening.
When Pure Knead opened its doors inside Gosforth Central, it sold out in a matter of hours. That kind of demand is not manufactured — it is the result of years spent building a devoted following at Tynemouth Market, where the bakery launched in 2015.
The sourdough
Pure Knead's sourdough is the real thing. Each loaf takes 48 hours to make, using only flour, water, and salt — no additives, no improvers, no shortcuts. The result is bread with genuine depth of flavour and the kind of crust that cracks properly when you tear into it. Their range includes classic white and wholemeal sourdoughs alongside more creative seasonal options.
Beyond bread
The pastries, cakes, slices, and savoury goods are all made with the same commitment to pure ingredients and proper technique. The bakery also offers a bespoke cake service for birthdays, weddings, and celebrations.
Three locations
Pure Knead now operates from three sites — Gosforth Central, Park View in Whitley Bay, and Dean Street in Newcastle city centre. The Gosforth branch brings genuine artisan baking within walking distance of the High Street for the first time.
Why it matters
In an era of mass-produced supermarket bread, having a proper artisan bakery on your doorstep is something worth celebrating. Pure Knead's Gosforth branch is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30am.
