A busy weekend ahead in and around Gosforth. From a grown-up disco on your doorstep to markets, charity events, and live sport, here is what is happening this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Friday 8 May
Street Food Friday: Jam Jar at Gosforth Civic Theatre, from 5pm. The Civic Theatre's popular street food evening returns with Jam Jar serving up food in the courtyard alongside drinks from the bar. A relaxed start to the weekend, right on Gosforth's doorstep.
Midnight Callers: Paul Smith & Peter Brewis DJ Set at Gosforth Civic Theatre, from 8pm. DJs Paul Smith (Maximo Park) and Peter Brewis (Field Music) spin everything from Depeche Mode to Destiny's Child, Kate Bush to Kraftwerk. The fourth edition of this increasingly popular grown-up disco with wall-to-wall alternative dance floor classics. 18+, limited seating. Tickets via gosforthcivictheatre.co.uk.
Saturday 9 May
Town Moor parkrun, 9am. The free weekly 5K on the Town Moor — all welcome, every Saturday. Meet at the Exhibition Park entrance and stay for coffee at Urban Green Cafe afterwards. Register free.
The Ouseburn Market, Stepney Bank, 10am onwards. Over 60 stalls of handcrafted jewellery, ceramics, natural skincare, prints, curated vintage fashion, and more. Street food vendors serve everything from bao buns to brownies, and Ouseburn's local businesses are open throughout the day. Free entry.
Summer Street Party at the space by St Oswald's Hospice x Urban Park Market, Ouse Street, Ouseburn, from 10am. A first-time indoor-outdoor event in the Ouseburn car park with vintage fashion, vinyl records, homeware, arts and crafts, plus food and drinks from local vendors. Free entry. Note: the car park will not be accessible for vehicles — use the Cycle Hub Car Park nearby.
Walker Park Funfair, Walker, 11am-5pm. A family-friendly funfair with rides, food, drink, and face painting. All rides cost £2.50 per person. Also open on Sunday.
Skate Island at Newcastle Racecourse, High Gosforth Park. The roller disco continues every Thursday to Sunday until the end of May. 90-minute sessions with skate hire included, from £7.50. Family sessions, student nights, and themed discos. Book online.
Sunday 10 May
Walker Park Funfair, 11am-5pm. Same as Saturday — family rides, food, and face painting at £2.50 per ride.
Wings for Life World Run at Kingston Park Stadium, 12pm. Runners set off from Kingston Park before heading out into the surrounding fields. A virtual "Catcher Car" gives you a 30-minute head start before chasing you down. 100% of registration fees go towards spinal cord injury research. Participants can claim a free ticket to the rugby afterwards using promo code NRBs. Register at wingsforlifeworldrun.com.
Newcastle Red Bulls v Harlequins at Kingston Park Stadium, 3pm kick-off. Premiership rugby on Gosforth's doorstep. Combine it with the Wings for Life run earlier in the day for a full afternoon out.
Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United on the Big Screen at Ouseburn Garden, from 1pm. Watch the Magpies' away match at the City Ground on the big screen in the Ouseburn. Premier League kick-off at 1pm.
Skate Island continues at Newcastle Racecourse — Sunday is Family Skate Day.
