Exhibition Park
Historic public park between the city centre and the Town Moor. Home to summer concerts, the Newcastle Mela, a skatepark, a lake, and large areas of open green space.
About Exhibition Park
Exhibition Park is one of Newcastle's most important public green spaces, covering around 15 acres between the Civic Centre and the Town Moor. Originally laid out in the 1880s for the Royal Mining, Engineering and Industrial Exhibition, it has been a public park ever since. The park features a boating lake, mature tree-lined paths, a children's play area, the Exhibition Park Skatepark, and large areas of open grass that host major events throughout the summer. It is the home of the Newcastle Mela, the annual South Asian cultural festival held every August bank holiday, as well as concerts and food festivals. For Gosforth residents it is one of the closest large parks, sitting just south of the Town Moor and easily reached on foot, by Metro (Haymarket station), or by bus along the Great North Road.
