The Globe

Award-winning community-owned music venue — the UK's first cooperative-owned bar. Jazz, folk, blues, rock, indie, and club nights. Home of Jazz.Coop Newcastle.

About The Globe

The Globe on Railway Street is the first bar and music venue in the UK to be owned and run by a music cooperative, a distinction that shapes everything about the place. In 2014, Pink Lane Jazz Co-op Ltd (trading as Jazz.Coop) purchased The Globe through a community share issue, with over 230 people buying shares and becoming members; the venue is run for the benefit of musicians and music lovers rather than private profit. The programme spans jazz, folk, blues, rock, indie, roots, acoustic, DJ nights, and club nights, and Jazz.Coop also runs courses, workshops, and jam sessions where musicians can learn, develop, and share their skills as well as perform. Located at 11 Railway Street in the west end of the city, it is intimate and unpretentious, with good sound and an audience there because they genuinely love music, and a short drive or taxi ride from Gosforth.
