A transatlantic double bill brings together two of the finest names on the Americana circuit for an intimate night above the Ouseburn. Brooklyn's Annie Keating is a prolific, road-worn songwriter with more than a decade of critically acclaimed albums behind her, first championed by BBC broadcaster Bob Harris and frequently likened to Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt for her warm, literate storytelling and lived-in voice. Backed by her full band, she trades in smoky, heartfelt songs of love, loss and life on the move. Sharing the bill are The Dreaming Spires, the acclaimed British roots outfit led by brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, whose sun-drenched country-rock harmonies and jangling Americana-tinged sound have earned them a devoted following. The two acts share more than a stage: the Spires' debut record was inspired by time spent in Keating's home borough, and their drummer also tours as part of her band, making this pairing a genuine meeting of kindred musical spirits rather than a billing of convenience. The Cumberland Arms is one of Newcastle's best-loved traditional pubs and a cherished spot for live roots music.
