About This Event

The Natural History Society of Northumbria's Ouse Burn Naturalist James Common leads a relaxed walk through the old, undisturbed grassland of Jesmond Old Cemetery in search of waxcaps and other fungi. Finds are recorded for NHSN's North East Waxcaps project, a citizen science effort to map and protect the region's waxcap grasslands, and the group will show you how to identify waxcaps and submit sightings on iRecord so you can keep contributing afterwards. No previous fungi experience is needed, though it is an exploratory walk so nobody knows in advance what will turn up. Meet at the Sandyford Road entrance (what3words: loses.case.vouch), bring weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear, and register free in advance through Eventbrite.
