If you're the sort of person who knows the capital of Burkina Faso but can never remember where you left your keys, Gosforth has you covered. At least seven pubs run regular quiz nights, spread across the week so you can find one almost any night.
Monday — The Millstone
The Millstone in South Gosforth runs a free-to-enter quiz every Monday at 8pm, with a £50 bar tab for the winners. Free entry and a decent prize makes this one of the best value quiz nights in the area. The pub reopened after a major refurbishment in 2021 and sits near South Gosforth Metro and Jesmond Dene.
Tuesday — Northumbrian Piper
The Northumbrian Piper in Fawdon restarted its quiz nights in early 2025. Tuesdays at 8:30pm, general knowledge format. The pub claims to have the largest beer garden in Newcastle, so arrive early in summer and combine a quiz with an evening outside.
Wednesday — Brandling Arms
The Brandling Arms on the High Street runs one of Gosforth's most established quizzes every Wednesday at 8pm. Entry is £2 per person, with a £60 bar tab for first place, £30 for second, and a bottle of wine for best team name. The large west-facing front terrace is a bonus if you arrive early on summer evenings.
Wednesday — The Victory
The Victory on Killingworth Road in South Gosforth also runs a Wednesday quiz — a smaller, more community-focused affair in one of the area's most traditional local pubs (established 1861).
Thursday — Gosforth Hotel
The Gosforth Hotel on the High Street runs a popular Thursday quiz hosted by quizmaster David, described by regulars as "top rate." Details on entry fee and start time vary — contact the pub directly or check their social media.
Thursday — Three Mile
The Three Mile on Great North Road runs a Big Fat Quiz Night on Thursdays at 7pm. This is a smartphone-based format — teams use their phones to answer, making it faster-paced than a traditional paper quiz. Entry is £5 per team (maximum 4 people). Spaces are limited, so book ahead.
Sunday — Brandling Villa
The Brandling Villa runs The Weekly Sunday Pub Quizzer every Sunday at 8pm, hosted by Quizard Steve. This one fills up — booking online is required via the Brandling Villa website. The pub's craft beer selection and burgers make it easy to arrive early and settle in.
Tips
Arrive early. Most quiz pubs don't take table reservations for quiz night — it's first come, first served for the best seats.
Check before you go. Quiz nights can be cancelled for bank holidays, football matches, or private events. A quick check of the pub's social media on the day saves a wasted trip.
Team size. Most quizzes work best with 4-6 people. Bigger teams dilute the prize; smaller teams leave gaps in your knowledge.
