Spotlight: Koru
A mindful cafe and artisan pizzeria on Salters Road with a plant-filled interior, BYO policy, and creative pizzas served Tuesday to Sunday evenings.
Tucked away on Salters Road, just off the High Street, Koru is one of Gosforth's most distinctive independent venues — a mindful cafe and artisan pizzeria that doubles as a daytime hangout and an evening restaurant.
The space
Step inside and you immediately notice the difference. Plants fill every available surface and corner, mismatched furniture gives the room a bohemian warmth, and approximately 95% of the furnishings, fittings, and decor have been upcycled. It is a space designed with nature and sustainability in mind — calm, green, and genuinely relaxing.
Cafe by day
During the day, Koru serves single-origin coffee, artisan cakes, and light lunch options. The atmosphere is peaceful enough for a quiet read or a catch-up with friends, with none of the bustle of the High Street cafes.
Pizzeria by evening
Come evening, the focus shifts to creative, freshly made pizzas — a contemporary menu that goes beyond the usual margherita-and-pepperoni formula. The BYO policy means you can bring your own wine or beer for a small corkage charge, keeping the bill low for a genuinely enjoyable night out.
Family friendly
A dedicated kids' menu sits alongside adult options, and the atmosphere is welcoming for families. Vegetarian, vegan, and non-gluten options are all available.
Open Tuesday to Sunday, midday until 10pm. Founded in 2020, Koru has quietly built a loyal following that appreciates its unique character.
