Bonfire Night in Gosforth

Bonfire Night 2026 falls on Thursday 5 November, and Gosforth is better served than anywhere else in the north of the city. There are three separate fireworks events on the doorstep this year, and because they land on three different nights you can genuinely pick, or go to more than one. The catch is that none of them is on the 5th itself, so it is worth reading the dates carefully before you promise the children anything.

Newcastle Round Table Fireworks Extravaganza, Saturday 7 November

This is the big one, and the largest organised display in this part of Newcastle. The Newcastle Round Table has run it for years at Gosforth Sports Association on Broadway West, with proceeds going to causes the Round Table supports across the city.

Gates open at 5pm and the fireworks go up at around 7pm, with food and drink stalls running through the earlier part of the evening. The organisers ask everyone to be on site by 6.45pm so the display can start on time. Tickets are adult £8.50, child aged 4 to 15 £6.50, and family bundles at £25 for two adults and two children or £28 for two adults and three children. Under-threes go free but still need a ticket.

Two things really matter here. Tickets are sold online only, with no sales on the gate, so book before you set off rather than turning up hopefully. And there is no parking at the ground at all, so the organisers ask people to walk or travel by Metro. Regent Centre and Wansbeck Road are both within walking distance, and on a night when several thousand people converge on one set of playing fields, the Metro is genuinely the sensible choice rather than the worthy one.

South Northumberland CC Fireworks Night, Saturday 7 November

The same evening brings a smaller, club-run alternative at South Northumberland Cricket Club on Roseworth Terrace, a short walk from the High Street. The club has held its fireworks night here for years, and it suits families who would rather have something close to home than a big crowd.

The date is confirmed for 2026 and the club opened early-bird ticket sales to members, with under-twos admitted free. Start times and general-admission prices had not been published at the time of writing, so check the club's website before making plans. If you live in central or east Gosforth and the thought of the walk back from Broadway West in the cold puts you off, this is the one to watch for.

Best for: The local, walkable option. Confirm times and prices with the club first, via the event listing.

Firework and Funfair Racenight, Friday 6 November

Newcastle Racecourse at High Gosforth Park offers something different again: a Friday floodlit race meeting with a funfair and a fireworks and laser display after the last race. Gates open early in the afternoon, the last race is at 6.30pm, and the fireworks follow.

Grandstand admission was on early-bird release at £17.50, with a family bundle at £26 and under-18s free with a paying adult, so check the current price when you book. The racecourse has not published a precise firework start time for 2026, so allow for the racing to overrun a little. There is free on-site parking, which makes this the easy one if you are driving, though the course is not within walking distance of a Metro station.

Best for: A whole evening out rather than twenty minutes in a field. Details on the event listing.

If you want Bonfire Night itself

None of the Gosforth displays falls on 5 November, which is typical across the North East this year. If you want the actual night, the nearest option is Blue Flames at Whitley Park in Benton, one of only a handful of regional displays held on the 5th. Gates are at 5.30pm with the display at 7.30pm, tickets are online only with no gate sales, and it is about five minutes' walk from Benton Metro, which is a straightforward hop from Gosforth on the yellow line.

A few practical things

Most organised displays ban sparklers and personal fireworks on site, so leave them at home rather than have them confiscated at the gate. Dress for standing still in a cold field for an hour: proper coats, hats and gloves, and a flask if you are with small children.

Dogs are much happier left at home with the curtains drawn and the radio on. If anyone in your group finds the noise difficult, the earlier, quieter displays elsewhere in the region are worth the journey. Blyth and Ponteland both run low-noise or early 6pm displays, and Hexham has dropped the bonfire entirely in favour of fireworks choreographed to music.
