Newcastle Racecourse

Newcastle's historic racecourse at High Gosforth Park, home of the Northumberland Plate (the Pitmen's Derby) and one of Britain's busiest tracks, with more than 80 fixtures a year across turf and floodlit all-weather racing.

About Newcastle Racecourse

Newcastle Racecourse sits within the 812-acre estate of High Gosforth Park, about five miles north of the city centre, and has been staging racing here for more than 140 years. It is one of the busiest tracks in the country, hosting more than 80 fixtures a year across a Grade 1 jumps course, a turf flat course, and an all-weather Tapeta surface that includes the only floodlit all-weather straight mile in Europe. The flagship meeting is the Northumberland Plate Festival each June, whose centrepiece, the two-mile Northumberland Plate, has been known since the nineteenth century as the Pitmen's Derby.

Beyond the racing calendar, the course is a year-round entertainment venue, hosting Ladies Day, student racenights, live music, festive fixtures, and seasonal events, with hospitality packages, restaurants, and enclosure tickets to suit different budgets. There is free on-site parking, and the wider park is home to the Grand Hotel, a golf course and driving range, and the Gosforth Park Nature Reserve. Children generally go free with a paying adult; check the official website for the current fixture list, enclosure options, and prices before booking.
