The Basics
Regent Farm First School is at Wansbeck Road South, NE3 3PE. The school serves children from age 3 to 9 (Nursery through Year 4), with Nursery places available from age 2 through government funding. Headteacher Mrs Helen Moore leads a team of around 51 staff.
The school is a foundation school and founding member of the Gosforth Schools Trust. Children feed into Gosforth Junior High Academy at Year 5, though families can also apply to Gosforth Central Middle or Gosforth East Middle.
Ofsted
Rated Good at its most recent full inspection in March 2022. Inspectors described the school as "a happy, nurturing, secure and supportive place to learn" with effective safeguarding. The school has been rated Good since at least 2005.
95% of parents surveyed by School Guide said they would recommend the school, with 82% strongly agreeing their child is happy and 86% strongly agreeing their child feels safe.
Visual Impairment Provision
Regent Farm's most distinctive feature is its Visual Impairment Additionally Resourced Provision (VI ARP), funded by Newcastle City Council's SEND Sensory Service. This serves pupils who are severely sight impaired or sight impaired, providing:
- Full inclusion in mainstream classrooms with specialist support - Modified and enlarged curriculum resources and tactile materials - Specialist assistive technology (iPads, laptops, dedicated VI equipment) - Braille literacy instruction (one-to-one) - Low vision aids training - Habilitation support for mobility and independent living skills
The VI provision is part of a three-school pathway across the Gosforth area: Regent Farm First School (ages 3-9) → Gosforth Junior High Academy (ages 9-13) → Gosforth Academy (ages 13-18). Ofsted has noted that "the achievement of visually impaired pupils is excellent by the time they leave the school."
Curriculum and Outdoor Learning
The school takes a topic-based, cross-curricular approach described as "imaginative and creative," designed to capture pupils' interest and enthusiasm. Reading is emphasised throughout all year groups.
The school has large outdoor grounds including forest areas, playing fields, and sensory gardens — all used for learning, relaxation, and sport.
Clubs and Wrap-Around Care
A wide variety of clubs rotate each term so every child can find something that suits them. Bookings are managed through the Reach More Parent App. 84% of disadvantaged pupils accessed at least one club in 2024-25.
Breakfast Club runs from 7:50am and after-school care is available until 5:45pm. Breakfast Club is subsidised for Pupil Premium children.
