About The County

The County is a Grade II listed pub at 70 High Street with roots stretching back to 1826, when the building was a private dwelling belonging to the Bulman family — the same family after whom part of Gosforth is named. It was converted to a pub in 1866 and became The County Hotel, a coaching inn on the Great North Road. Listed in 1987, the handsome sandstone exterior with its gold lettering is one of the most recognisable frontages on the High Street. Inside, the large rectangular bar can be accessed from two entrances, and vintage photographs line the walls. The pub stocks an impressive 14 rotating cask ales alongside keg beers and guest ales, including Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Morland Old Speckled Hen. Food is served noon to 7pm daily, with pizzas and pub classics available for dine-in or takeaway. The spacious beer garden and outdoor terrace with festoon lighting is a popular summer spot, and the pub shows all major sport on widescreen TVs. Dog-friendly, family-friendly, and wheelchair accessible.
