Gosforth.org·

This guide is about breakfast — not brunch. Earlier starts, more bacon, less avocado. If you want eggs Benedict at 11am, see our brunch guide. If you want to be fed and caffeinated by 8:30am on a weekday, read on.

Baby Grey

Baby Grey at 75 High Street opens at 8am Monday-Friday and is arguably Gosforth's most acclaimed breakfast spot — featured in National Geographic's "Best Breakfasts in the UK." The menu is a step above: hummus eggs (the signature dish), maple smoked bacon on Northern Rye sourdough with confit tomato, French toast banana bread, and smoked salmon croissants. Strong coffee focus. Expect £10-20 per head. Saturday is coffee shop only (no full food menu), closed Sunday.

Best for: The best breakfast in Gosforth, National Geographic-listed, strong coffee.

Etto on the Park

Etto at the Gosforth Shopping Centre opens at 8am Monday-Saturday and 9am Sunday — one of the few places open for breakfast seven days a week. The chilli green eggs are famous, and there's a "FAT" breakfast option plus eggs and avo on toast. Scandinavian-style interior with a terrace overlooking Gosforth Central Park. Speciality coffee roasted by Caravan. Family-friendly with space for prams.

Best for: Sunday breakfast, park terrace, open 7 days, family-friendly.

Best for: High Street location, homemade baking, sit-down breakfast.

Pink Lane Bakery

Pink Lane Bakery at the Old Fire Station on the High Street opens at 8am Monday-Saturday. Not a sit-down breakfast spot in the traditional sense, but the fresh almond croissants, sausage rolls, and pastries make an excellent grab-and-go breakfast. Arrive early — popular items sell out.

Best for: Pastry breakfast, grab-and-go, artisan quality.

HiiGRIND

HiiGRIND at Grand Stand Garage on Kenton Road opens at 6am on weekdays — the earliest start in Gosforth by some margin. Modern, minimalist space with floor-to-ceiling windows. Good coffee and light breakfast options.

Tremolo Lounge

Tremolo Lounge at 92 High Street opens at 9am daily (including weekends) and serves a full breakfast menu — eggs, bacon, sausage, and lighter options alongside good coffee. Part of The Lounges chain, so the menu is predictable but reliable. Dog-friendly.

Best for: Weekend breakfast, consistent quality, dog-friendly.

Say When

Say When at 109-111 High Street opens from 9am daily with coffee and pastries in the morning before transitioning to wine bar mode in the evening. A stylish start to the day.

Best for: Coffee shop breakfast, north Gosforth location.

Tips

Weekday vs weekend. Most Gosforth cafes open at 8-9am on weekdays. Weekend hours are often the same or slightly later. HiiGRIND is the only 6am option.

Full English. For a traditional fry-up, Thyme Square and Caffe 1901 are your best bets. Most other options lean lighter — pastries, toast, eggs.

Grab-and-go. Pink Lane Bakery and the three Greggs (from 6am) are the quickest options.
