The leading amateur theatre company in the North of England. Around 13 productions a year including a full-scale family pantomime, in a dedicated theatre since 1962.

About People's Theatre

The People's Theatre is a community theatre on Stephenson Road in Heaton, Newcastle. It traces its origins to 1911, when members of the Newcastle branch of the British Socialist Party began staging plays as the Clarion Dramatic Society; its first performance, The Bishop's Candlesticks, was given in July 1911. The company moved to its current Stephenson Road home in 1962. It stages a full season of around nine productions a year spanning drama, comedy and farce, together with an annual Christmas pantomime, and also runs a Young People's Theatre. The venue maintains costume and props collections, offers relaxed and accessible performances, and is available for hire.
